History

SEEschool was established in 1994, in the Pal-Chaudhuri family home. The current modernized school building was dedicated in 2002 as the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society Vidyapith School. High School classes are also held at the Pal-Chaudhuri Gupinath Temple and Women's Education classes are also held in the villages. At first, we had to go door-to door, asking families to let at least one of their children have an education instead of working in the fields and factories; now there's a long waiting list of children eager to escape the cycle of poverty and despair.

"Not only do award winning photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, stars of BRAVO TV'S DOUBLE EXPOSURE create magnificent images in an incredible atmosphere, they understand synergy! Klinko & Indrani also grasp the meaning of giving-back! Indrani and her father, Ajay Pal-Chaudhuri started S.E.E., a school in West Bengal, which provides free quality education and vocational training for women and children... Klinko & Indrani embodies talent and social conscience."

SEEschool Students Students of all religions are welcome. Many are refugees. All come from poverty. They are hard-working and inspiring, and most are the first in their families to become literate. Many graduates go on to become teachers, helping spread the light of hope and harmony.
Ajay Pal-Chaudhuri grew up at his family's 350 year-old home in Ranaghat and studied at Ramakrishna Ashram Vidyapith, dreaming to find the means to uplift the poor. He then studied at Calcutta University, became a Chartered Accountant in London, and returned to Calcutta with his wife. Both volunteered for Mother Theresa and taught at the Ramakrishna Mission in Calcutta. The family returned to England and Canada, where they worked for decades. Upon retiring, Ajay returned to India with his daughter, and they decided together to create a charitable school in their historic home.
Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri is an award-winning photographer, director and author, who works in New York, Los Angeles and Paris, for the New York Times, the London Times, People, Time, Vogue, Rolling Stone, and many others. She is famed for her work with celebrities, from Janet Jackson to Lady Gaga and David Bowie to Anderson Cooper, and her work has been in over 20 exhibitions and books. Born and raised in Ranaghat, Calcutta and Toronto, as a teen she became a successful international fashion model for Vogue, Elle, etc. At 18, after traveling for 6 months in India, Indrani decided to devote all her modeling earnings and her time to found the school with her father. She studied philosophy on her global travels, and was initiated with Mantradeeksha by Swami Bhuteshananda, 12th President of the Ramakrishna Order, Belur Math. She received a scholarship to Princeton University, where she earned a high honors AB degree in Anthropology. At the same time, she developed her photography career with creative partner Markus Klinko. She remains a dedicated administrator and fundraiser for SEEschool, recently filmed the UN's Nothing But Nets campaign in Bangui, Central African Republic, and a campaign for Keep A Child Alive against AIDS in India and Africa, which won 2 Gold Lions at Cannes. She is the author of Image Craft (forthcoming) at Harper One. And she created, co-produced and stars in Double Exposure, a TV series about her work, which features her trip to India to visit SEEschool.org in the 6th episode, airing in over 50 countries including USA, Australia, South Africa, Denmark, China, India etc.
Krishna Pal-Chaudhuri dedicated her entire life to teaching children in Ranaghat. SEE School has been fortunate to have her as its strong-minded, kind-hearted headmistress for over a decade.
